The point about social norms favoring loudness and surface‑level interaction rather than depth and quiet presence felt especially clear. It makes perfect sense that someone who values stillness and thoughtfulness would feel out of place in a culture that rewards performance and volume.
“If there’s one thing I’ve noticed being an introvert, it’s that people want to know what is going on in my head more than anyone else’s, precisely because it isn’t freely offered.” This is so true! It makes people so nervous (and intrigued)
Sometimes I think the world doesn’t hate introverts. I think it fears them the same way the ocean fears a silent storm coming from nowhere. People are used to noise, approval, applause, chitchat about nothing. So when someone exists quietly, not broadcasting self worth 24/7, it makes them uncomfortable because they have nothing to grab onto. Silence isn’t a threat. It just refuses to dance to their tune, and humans hate not understanding something. Silence that isn’t awkward but purposeful makes people ask questions they don’t want to answer about themselves
as an introvert, i completely relate - you described this dynamic so perfectly !
thank you! i’m glad it resonated 🤍
